On top of the rectangular varnished rosewood box which houses the thermometer, is a clock with a Paris-type mechanism with two trains: the chiming train striking on the hour and the half-hour on a bell, and the motion train with anchor escapement, suspension spring and pendulum.

Etched on the back plate are the numbers 9-1064 and 1064, and the name of the clockmakers: “Dupont à Paris” and “Pons médaille d’or 1827”.

The dial is silvered metal with Roman numerals for the hours with the two arbors located at the height of the 4 and the 8. It is surrounded by the typical Empire laurel crown in gilded bronze.

On the front of the casing, on a silvered metal sheet, is a thermometer with both Fahrenheit and Celsius, with several references marking the following concepts: “Bains”, “Ver(s) à soie”, “Serres”, “Tempéré”, “Glace” and “Paris 1740”. This last reference remembers the historic freeze of -23º recorded in Paris in 1740. The thermometer is framed by two pavilions, a symbol of the French revolution.
