A landscape painter born in Paris at the end of the 19th century, little is known of Chrétien’slife, although his work is fairly well documented. He exhibited in Paris at the Salon des Artistes Indépendants from 1913 (alongside artists of the stature of Pierre Bonnard and Édouard Vuillard) and his work was included in the 1926 retrospective. He painted many views of Montmartre, such as Cabaret du Lapin Agile and Montmartresous la neige, as well as many Breton landscapes.
