Born into a family of artisans, Corberó started drawing in his father’s and grandfather’s metalworking studio. After studying at the Massana School in Barcelona—founded in 1929 by his father and by Llorenç Artigas (1892-1980)—he further his studies at the Central School of Arts and Crafts in London between 1955 and 1959, where he worked with precious metals and stones. Another influential period in his training was his time at the Medici Foundry in Lausanne.

In the early sixties, encouraged by the painter Manuel Viola (1916-1987), he decided to more to New York, where Marcel Duchamp (1887-1968) introduced him to the surrealist group and artists like Man Ray (1890-1976) or Max Ernst (1891-1976).

He returned to Spain in the mid-sixties and in 1972 he set up Fundación Xavier Corberó in Esplugues de Llobregat, which includes a number of workshops in various disciplines such as carpentry, metalworking, graphic arts and photography for young artists on scholarships.
His work has been exhibited in Spain and worldwide in solo and group shows.
