Louis-Charles Desnos was a cartographer and maker of globes and mathematical instruments who settled in Paris where he worked for, among other famous patrons, the King of Denmark Christian VII.

His prolific production of maps, particularly abundant in the 1860s, 1870s and 1880s, made him famous but also aroused the envy of other cartographers of the time.
