20th-21st Century Argentinian

A sociologist by training, Abot worked as a teacher in his home country while at once studying drawing and painting with Demetrio Urruchúa (1902-1978). He then went on to dedicate himself full-time to art, mainly in the disciplines of visual arts and design.

Abot had his first solo exhibition in 1969 and, two years later, was awarded the Argentinian Society of Visual Artists Prize in 1971.

Between the 1970s and 1990s, he worked in Madrid combining painting with graphic design and exhibition design. On returning to Argentina he continued working in the field of design and in 2004 he created the stage sets for Sonata de primavera, an opera by Jorge Fontenla based on the novel of the same name by Valle Inclán and directed by Constantino Juri.

Jorge Abot’s work is included in European and Latin American collections, such as Calcografía Nacional, Instituto de Cooperación Iberoamericana, Museo de Arte Contemporáneo Latinoamericano and Museo de Arte Abstracto del Sur.
