20th Century Spanish

After training at El Estudio, the art school set up by Soto Mesa, and at the Círculo de Bellas Artes, Moreno began her career as an artist in the 1980s. Her painting was soon recognised as one of the most innovative practices of her generation. Moreno’s style evolved from an expressionistic figuration to a geometric body of work based on colour and the expression of movement.

After winning the 2nd Young Art Competition organised by Instituto de la Juventud de Madrid in 1986, her work was featured in important shows, mostly in Spain but also internationally. Her work has won several awards, including the 1995 Diario 16 ICARO Visual Arts Award, the 2001 Altadis Visual Arts Prize and the 2006 National Graphic Arts Prize. Also in 2006, a major exhibition of her work titled HipnÓptico was organised at MUSAC in León.
