His birthplace in Segovia gave Moro a keen insight into the architectural wonders of the past and a little-known rural landscape. There two worlds in mutual confrontation encouraged the artist to create his own personal universe peopled by new forms suggestive of an animal and vegetal world.

The work in the BBVA collection is a good example of the canvases of this nomadic artist, in which bold colours gave rise to figures that seem to take on a corporeal presence. These figures come from memories of Moro’s dream-like world but at once also seem to herald a possible future.

In his painting, figurative references are combined with abstraction in a highly personal rendition of the artist’s own feelings. Colour is treated as the support and framework for volumes executed in thick lines. The overall balanced composition endeavours to reach out to and engage the beholder.
