A self-taught artist, Rébora was born in Guadalajara, Jalisco, in 1963. At the age of twenty the author obtained a grant from the publisher Enrico Valecchi to perfect rotogravure at the Il Bisonte printing studio in Florence, where he would spend the following eight years. Back in Mexico in 1990, he was a pupil of Vlady (1920-2005). Then, in response to an invitation from Austria’s Minister for Culture, he worked in Vienna for four months in 1995.
Roberto Rébora is also a publisher and printer. In 1995, together with the poet Josué Ramírez, he founded Taller Ditoria, where they created limited editions of poetry books using old handcrafted techniques. The list of writers published includes Mallarmé, Juan Gelman, Gerardo Deraz and Ida Vitale.
Rébora’s work has been presented in over thirty solo and group shows as well as in art fairs in Mexico, United States and Europe. Outside Mexico his work is included in several private and public collections, with a special mention for the Art Museum of the Americas (AMA), in Washington DC.
In 2011 he won first prize in the 15
th
Rufino Tamayo Painting Biennale in Mexico. Since 2000 he has been a member of Sistema Nacional de Creadores de Arte (national system of art creators), an art association belonging to FONCA (National Endowment for Culture and Arts) on various occasions.
