This highly important porcelain factory was founded in the Basque Country by the Bulucuas and the Chirapozus, two of the wealthiest families in Busturia, the place where the factory was located.

In 1842, Gaspar de Bulucua built the infrastructure for the production of ceramics, and founded an association to run the operations, which was then officially constituted in 1847. The factory would remain active until 1862.

At the beginning, the factory was overseen by two Frenchmen, Decan and Margaine. It is known that Margaine himself owned a porcelain factory in Paris, from where he imported samples and models to boost the production in Busturia. At a later stage, in the company’s final decade, the technical aspects of production were managed by Pedro González Agüeros, a period when its style and technique were consolidated and its production reached its peak.
