Here we have an excellent example of the luminist realism so popular in painting from Valencia in the early 1900s. The light and colour of this peaceful spot with vine arbours and rose bushes clearly tell us that we are before a Mediterranean landscape.

The Valencia-born artist, who began his career copying plates by Ignacio Pinazo (1849—1916), was a coeval of Mariano Benlliure (1862—1947) and Joaquín Sorolla (1863—1923).

Although during his stay in Paris Stolz specialised in miniature genre scenes and still lifes, rendered with the preciosity so highly appreciated at the time, back in Spain he returned to landscape, a genre in which he excelled.
